Inspired by the Puerto Rican expression, Como Coco, which means you are robust, Joann shares intimate and personal stories that pull at your heartstrings. Her experiences of losing her brother at a tender age, living through an abusive relationship, and a simultaneous divorce and bankruptcy are expertly demonstrated through her beautiful use of words and how there is something much greater at play. Despite the numerous hardships she experiences, including feelings of being bankrupt, figuratively and literally, she leans on her faith and intuition to get her through her difficult times.
When life starts to improve, other major life-changing events lurk around the corner, further testing her faith. This is a profoundly moving account of how faith and intuition help her through the most challenging times. Joann leaves the reader wanting more, especially when her mother makes a spiritual appearance in her life.
